Barcelona star says goodbye amid tears and ovation
Striker Robert Lewandowski experienced a highly emotional night in what may have been his final home match for Barcelona, receiving a massive ovation from fans during a 3–1 win over Real Betis.
With this victory, the Catalan club concluded a historic season by becoming the first team in La Liga history to finish a 38-match season with a perfect home record of 19 wins. However, the main focus was on the Polish striker, who was substituted in the 85th minute amid tears, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Emotional and deeply moved by the affection from the stands, Lewandowski addressed the fans after the final whistle with words of gratitude:
“For me, this is a very emotional and difficult day. When I arrived at Barcelona, I believed this club was great, but thanks to your love, it has been extraordinary. From day one I have felt at home. I will never forget the moment when you sang my name.”
The Pole arrived in 2022 from Bayern Munich at a critical moment for the club and became a key figure in its revival, winning three La Liga titles in four years.
He added: “It has been an honor to play for this club. We have lived through great moments in these four years; I am very proud of everything we have achieved together. I am saying goodbye to the stadium, but I will always keep Barcelona in my heart. Thank you to all the fans. Once Barça, always Barça.”
