Albania’s Shkodër Carnivals revive 19th-century festive heritage
The Shkodër Carnivals in Albania brought color and energy to the Historical Museum of Shkodër through the event “Heritage of Carnivals”.
The activity was organized by the National Centre for Traditional Activities, in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Culture Shkodër (DRTK) and the “Hamdi Bushati” vocational high school, CE Report quotes ATA.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, highlighted the importance of the event, emphasizing that “tradition was presented and passed on through the creativity and participation of young people.”
“The masks crafted with imagination, the colorful costumes, and the artistic performances created a festive atmosphere, recalling an important tradition of the city, dating back to 1860,” Gonxhja noted.
The carnival festivities in Shkodër began on February 9 and will continue until Sunday, February 15. The square will feature artistic props, allegorical floats, parades, grotesque and animated characters, concerts, and more. These events will not only involve the citizens of Shkodër but also attract visitors from outside the city.
The Shkodër Carnivals revive the tradition of colorful, music-filled celebrations, creating an appealing environment for families, young people, and visitors, while also serving as an opportunity to promote the city as a tourist and cultural destination.
