The project "Federation of Minor Practices", curated by Martina Yordanova, has been selected to represent Bulgaria at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026. The Ministry of Culture announced that this decision had been made by the jury chaired by Dr Svetlana Kuyumdzhieva.

The winning project was created by Veneta Androva, Geri Georgieva, Maria Nalbantova and Raina Teneva. It was selected from 23 entries reviewed by a seven-person jury as part of the competition for Bulgaria's national participation in one of the biggest events in the contemporary art world, CE Report quotes BTA.

This will be Bulgaria's twelfth national participation in the Venice Art Biennale. For the second consecutive year, the Bulgarian pavilion will be located in the Sala Tiziano exhibition space at the Centro Culturale Don Orione Artigianelli, near the Accademia Bridge.

"Bulgaria's participation in the Venice Biennale is a key element in the overall presentation of contemporary Bulgarian art in an international context, and a tool for establishing our country as an active participant in the global cultural dialogue", said the Ministry of Culture.

The results of the competition and the winning project will be officially announced at a press conference on January 20 at the BTA National Press Club. The event is being organized by the Ministry and the National Gallery.

The Biennale of Arts in Venice will take place from May 9 to November 22, 2026. The theme of the upcoming biennale is "In Minor Keys". The Bulgarian pavilion will be located in the Titian Hall, where Bulgarian projects were exhibited in the 18th and 19th editions of the Architecture Biennale (in 2023 and 2025) and in the 60th edition of the Venice Biennale of Arts in 2024.

On November 19, the then Cabinet approved Bulgaria’s participation in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice, Italy, titled “In Minor Keys”.
