
“The Black Phone 2” tops U.S. box office in horror sequel debut
"The Black Phone 2", the horror sequel directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Ethan Hawke, debuted at #1 in the U.S. box office with a $26.5 million opening weekend.
Despite a slow overall weekend, the film is riding the momentum of the Halloween season. Internationally, it brought in $15.5 million, bringing its global total to $42 million, CE Report quotes ANSA.
In second place is Disney’s sci-fi film "Tron: Ares", starring Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters, which added $11.1 million in its second weekend, for a domestic total of $54.6 million and a worldwide haul of $103 million so far.
New comedy "Good Fortune", the directorial debut of comedian Aziz Ansari, opened in third place with a modest $6.2 million. The adult-themed body-swap comedy stars Seth Rogen, Keanu Reeves, and Ansari himself.
Fourth place went to Paul Thomas Anderson’s thriller Una Battaglia Dopo l’Altra, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, which earned $4 million, raising its U.S. total to $61 million and global total to $162.5 million.
Rounding out the top five is the romantic comedy "Roofman", based on a true story and starring Channing Tatum as a former soldier turned fugitive hiding in a toy store. It earned $3.7 million this weekend, with a $15.5 million domestic and $16.4 million global total to date.
