Over 1,000 artists from 63 countries have applied for the 23rd International Print Biennial in Varna, set to take place in mid-August. This year, for the first time, participants can apply via an online platform, which provides details about the competition, jury members, and the event’s history, CE Report quotes BTA

Countries with rich printmaking traditions, such as China, Japan, Poland, and Italy, are among the applicants, alongside others from Peru, Iran, and Nepal. The platform also features a bilingual catalog documenting all past editions.

The jury will be chaired by Prof. Stoimen Stoilov, with members including Richard Noyce (UK), Elspeth Lamb (Scotland), Francesco Parisi (Italy), and Zang Liang (China), alongside Bulgarian members Peter Lazarov, Emanuela Kovach, Dimo Kolibarov, and Dimo Milanov.

Held at the City Art Gallery in Varna, this biennial is one of Europe’s oldest graphic art gatherings and the oldest of its kind in Bulgaria, established in 1981. It is organized by the Municipality of Varna, the Culture Ministry, and the Union of Bulgarian Artists.
