
Strong earthquake shakes Greece
A 5.2 Richter magnitude earthquake shook the southwestern coast of the island of Evia, 27 minutes after midnight.
The earthquake, with a focal depth of only 13.6 kilometers, was felt in the wider area, even in Attica region, with many residents spending the night outside their homes, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
No injuries or damages were immediately reported.
The regional governor of Central Greece, Fanis Spanos, told ANA-MPA:
"So far there is no information about major damage to buildings and people, but not even some small and medium damage. The checks are ongoing."
On his part, the mayor of Karystos Lefteris Raviolos noted that "the seismic tremor was particularly felt in our area, but no material damage or injuries have been reported so far." He called on residents and visitors to follow the prevention instructions and remain calm.
The Fire Departments in Attica and Evia, as well as the Disaster Response Special Unit remain on alert.
