Greece announces 2026 August full moon events
The Greek Ministry of Culture will once again organize its August Full Moon celebrations in 2026, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.
The main events will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026, offering the public unique cultural experiences beneath the light of the August full moon, CE Report informs via the Greek Ministry of Culture's official website.
On the night of the full moon, 126 archaeological sites, historic locations, monuments, and museums across Greece will welcome visitors with free admission, providing a special opportunity to experience the country's rich cultural heritage under the moonlight.
As part of the celebration, 61 archaeological sites, monuments, and museums will host special events, while 65 additional sites will remain open to the public free of charge from approximately 7:30/8:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. or midnight.
This year's program extends beyond the full moon night itself, with events also scheduled for August 26, 27, 29, and 30. The program includes theatrical performances, concerts, dance performances, exhibitions, and guided tours, organized by the services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums and Technical Works. Many events are held in cooperation with regional and local authorities, as well as cultural organizations throughout Greece.
For the 27th consecutive year, the August Full Moon celebrations will bring together Greece's archaeological sites, museums, and monuments in a nationwide festival of culture.
The Ministry of Culture invites the public to take part in this unique experience on Friday, August 28, 2026, and enjoy the magic of the night and the special atmosphere created by the moonlight illuminating Greece's historic monuments.
