According to air quality monitoring company IQAir, Washington briefly became the world's most polluted major city following the massive fireworks display during Saturday's celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.

The fireworks show, organized by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, caused a temporary spike in air pollution levels. Despite the short-term deterioration in air quality, the Trump administration described the display as "incredible," according to AFP, CE Report quotes STA.

Air quality experts note that large-scale fireworks displays can cause brief but significant increases in fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which may temporarily affect air quality and visibility. However, pollution levels typically decline within several hours as weather conditions help disperse the particles.
