Bulgaria, Türkiye advance plans for new trade, logistics hub
“Bulgaria and Türkiye have the potential to further develop their economic, trade, and investment partnership. We are seeing record levels of bilateral trade,” Deputy Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Krasimir Yakimov said during the presentation of a project for a Trade and Logistics Centre in the Trakia Economic Zone near Plovdiv, as quoted by the press office of the Ministry of Economy, Investments and Industry.
He described the Trakia (Thrace) Trade and Logistics Centre as an important new platform for developing bilateral relations, CE Report quotes BTA.
Yakimov also emphasized the role of institutions and business organizations as a link between companies from the two countries.
“The Ministry of Economy, Investments and Industry, the InvestBulgaria Agency, the Executive Agency for the Promotion of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, as well as the Bulgarian-Turkish Chamber, serve as bridges connecting Bulgarian and Turkish businesses,” the deputy minister said.
He also highlighted the role of institutional support for businesses and investment.
“The 2026 budget includes ЕUR 200 million for energy-intensive industries, as well as EUR 60 million for investors certified under the Investment Promotion Act,” Yakimov said.
The deputy minister noted that some of these companies have Turkish capital and are benefiting from the available support mechanisms. These include major investors carrying out large-scale projects to expand their operations in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria has stepped up its ties with Türkiye in recent months, with Prime Minister Rumen Radev highlighting the importance of Bulgaria’s southeastern neighbor during the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Sofia in the first half of June.
At the NATO summit in Türkiye, Prime Minister Radev also held a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Meanwhile, Türkiye’s Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci is also on an official visit to Sofia.
