Slovenian pensioners to receive higher annual allowance in June

Pensioners in Slovenia will receive their annual allowance together with their June pensions. In accordance with the pension reform, the allowance is divided into five income brackets, ranging from €160 to €470. Pensioners with higher pensions will receive a lower allowance, while those with lower pensions will receive a higher one.

This year's allowance is €5 higher than last year's, CE Report quotes STA.

Recipients of disability benefits will also receive the annual allowance. Their payments are divided into three brackets, ranging from €160 to €270.

A total of nearly 646,300 people are eligible for the annual allowance. The Pension and Disability Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZPIZ) will pay out almost €175.2 million in total, including €172.6 million for more than 635,500 pension recipients and €2.5 million for more than 10,700 recipients of disability benefits.

As in previous years, the calculation of the allowance takes into account several factors, including any portion of a survivor's pension, family pension from a second parent, pension supplements or differences under other regulations, and pensions received from foreign pension or disability insurance providers. For these individuals, the amount of the annual allowance is determined based on the combined value of pensions received from the Slovenian pension system and from abroad, and is paid according to the applicable scale.

This year, ZPIZ asked approximately 141,100 people to submit proof of the amount of their foreign pension. By 17 June, just over 118,400 had returned the required declaration. Most of them will receive the allowance today.

Those who submit the declaration by the end of September will receive the allowance in October. If a person does not return the declaration, they will receive the minimum allowance of €160, or a proportional amount if their main pension was calculated under international agreements.

A special provision remains in force under which the allowance is not reduced proportionally in certain cases. If the basis for calculating the annual allowance does not exceed €710, the full €470 allowance will be paid even when the main pension is granted proportionally under international agreements.

ZPIZ also announced that people who become entitled to a pension or disability benefit after June will receive the annual allowance together with their first pension or benefit payment.

The institute further noted that the annual allowance is subject to enforcement and may be seized by creditors in accordance with court enforcement orders and the law. If ZPIZ receives an enforcement order, such as a court or tax execution order against a debtor's monetary income, it is legally required to deduct the relevant amount from the payment.

Recipients will not receive a separate notification about the allowance payment. ZPIZ issues payment notifications only following the annual pension adjustment made in February.
