
Sofia awards honorary citizenship to iconic skier
Skier Albert Popov became an Honorary Citizen of Sofia. He was awarded the title by Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev and Sofia Municipal Council Chair Tsvetomir Petrov.
The Sofia Municipal Council made the decision to honour the skier in recognition of his sporting achievements and his contribution to promoting Bulgarian sport, CE Report quotes BTA.
During the ceremony, Mayor Terziev emphasized that Albert Popov sets a good example for young people through the way he thinks, speaks and behaves: with modesty, determination and respect for hard work. Terziev said that it is precisely such individuals who set new role models and show that success can go hand in hand with humanity and balance. He wished Popov further success in his sport career, urging him to "go fast down the track and up the world rankings".
Albert Popov thanked for the recognition, saying that it is important to him that athletes remain grounded and close to the people. He said that he tries to be open with children and show them through his personal example that achievements come with perseverance, hard work and belief in one's goals.
Petrov, the Chair of the Municipal Council, expressed his satisfaction that one of Bulgaria's most successful athletes is bringing glory to both Bulgaria and the capital, adding that Albert Popov is a worthy representative of the spirit of Sofia.
