Turkish authorities identify attackers linked to consulate-area incident
Turkish authorities have arrested three more suspects in the investigation into the April 7 attack near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, according to DPA and Anadolu agencies.
Nine suspects were already in custody on Saturday, bringing the total number of detainees to 12 in connection with the attack, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
According to official reports, one of the attackers was killed during the incident, while the other two were injured. Two police officers also sustained minor injuries.
Turkiye’s Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci said on X that the attackers had been identified.
The attack took place around noon in the Levent financial district of Istanbul. The three perpetrators, armed with firearms, arrived in a rented car from Izmit, the capital of Kocaeli Province.
The attack has not been claimed. However, the assailant who was killed — Yunus E., 32, born in Adana — was described by Turkish media as having links to the Islamic State.
The Turkish Interior Ministry stated that he had ties to “a terrorist organization that instrumentalizes religion.”
