Europe’s cheapest coastal escapes this summer
If you're planning to go to Europe this summer but still haven't fully decided on an itinerary, you might be shocked by the extremely high costs — especially when booking at the last minute, writes Vinicius Costa in an article published in the American travel magazine Travel Off Path.
From Spain’s Costa Brava, across the French Riviera, to Italy’s Amalfi Coast and the idyllic Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, a daily budget of up to $194 or more is needed — not to mention the massive crowds, CE Report quotes ATA.
However, not every European summer destination is as expensive as Positano on Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
In fact, there are four charming “Old World” destinations that offer more affordable accommodation and food:
Vlora, Albania
Lake Ohrid, Albania/North Macedonia
Nessebar, Bulgaria
Batumi, Georgia
Vlora, Albania
Nestled between mountains and sea, Vlora is the top tourist destination on Albania’s coastline — the “hidden gem” of a country quickly becoming Europe’s next summer hotspot.
Vlora is a peaceful city with a recently renovated historic center, rich cultural heritage, and a stunning coastline — lined with high-rise apartments, lively beach bars, and welcoming taverns serving fresh seafood all day long.
This beautiful coastal city will soon offer direct flights within Europe.
The Vlora International Airport is scheduled to open in 2026.

Lake Ohrid
Lake Ohrid stretches across the mountainous border between southwestern North Macedonia and eastern Albania. It is one of Europe’s deepest and oldest lakes, with a unique aquatic ecosystem of global significance, home to more than 200 endemic species.
Imagine a string of lakeside towns crisscrossed with cobbled streets, colorful boats anchored at picturesque harbors, stunning ancient churches, and even pebble beaches — lying next to sailing clubs.
Don’t miss the city of Ohrid, one of the oldest settlements in Europe.
Built mostly between the 7th and 19th centuries, it boasts the oldest Slavic monastery (Saint Panteleimon) and more than 800 Byzantine-style icons dating from the 11th to the late 14th century.
