Iran, EU Hold Tense Nuclear Talks in Istanbul
Senior Iranian and European diplomats held “serious, frank, and detailed” talks in Istanbul on Friday amid escalating tensions between Tehran and the West, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Iran’s deputy foreign ministers Kazem Gharibabadi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi met with envoys from France, Germany, the UK, and the EU to discuss the nuclear issue and sanctions relief. The meeting followed recent military escalation between Iran and Israel and rising U.S.-Iran tensions.
Gharibabadi criticized the European stance on the recent conflict and warned against triggering the JCPOA’s snapback sanctions, calling the mechanism "legally and morally void."
Despite strong disagreements, both sides agreed to continue consultations. The talks come as the planned U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations in Muscat remain on hold.
