Instagram tests “AI creator” label for users

Tech & Science

Instagram is experimenting with a new label that will allow users to self-assign the title of “AI Creator.”

The badge, visible on profiles and next to posts and reels, will read: “This profile publishes content generated or modified with AI.”

The feature, still in testing, was reported by Engadget and later shared by the official Instagram Creators account on Meta’s social platform, CE Report quotes ANSA.

In some previews of the new feature, it states that “this label builds trust by helping audiences understand what they are seeing on Instagram.” To activate the badge, users simply need to go into their profile settings and select the corresponding option.

According to Instagram Creators, “AI Creator” labels are completely optional. This means many users may still encounter AI-generated content with a more generic “AI information” label or no label at all.

Meta’s independent Oversight Board, which monitors the company’s platforms and suggests improvements, had already highlighted in March the limitations of AI-content detection systems, which are unable to reliably determine whether a post was created using AI software.
