Moldova hosts Rugby Europe Sevens Trophy Championship
Moldova is hosting the second stage of the Rugby Europe Sevens Trophy Championship, the continent's second-tier rugby sevens competition, bringing together around 400 athletes from 24 countries
A total of 68 matches will be played over three days, from June 26 to 28, at Dinamo Stadium in Chisinau, with financial support from the Ministry of Education and Research, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
Moldova's women's rugby sevens team will compete in a group alongside Montenegro, Romania and Hungary. In the men's tournament, Moldova will face Switzerland, Denmark and Hungary in the group stage.
According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the Moldovan women's team finished third in the first stage of the European competition, while the men's team placed 12th.
The top two teams in the overall standings after both stages of the championship will qualify for the 2027 European Games in Türkiye, where they will compete for places at the 2028 Olympic Games.
Rugby sevens has been part of the Olympic programme since making its debut at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
