New York City offers discounted World Cup tickets
Residents of New York City will be able to purchase discounted tickets for the FIFA World Cup, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced at a press conference on Thursday.
A total of 1,000 tickets will be available at $50 each, covering five group-stage matches and two knockout matches scheduled at MetLife Stadium, which will be renamed New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Mamdani said that ticket prices for the tournament have risen to thousands of dollars, making it difficult for many local residents to attend.
He added that only New York City residents will be eligible to enter a lottery starting on May 25, lasting six days. Participants can register once per day, with a daily cap of 50,000 entries. Each of the city’s five boroughs will be represented.
Winners will also have the option to purchase an additional ticket, and they will receive free bus transportation to and from the stadium.
The FIFA World Cup 2026, hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, has faced criticism over high ticket prices and transportation issues, particularly in the U.S.
