The Chicago Bulls retired Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey in an emotional ceremony following a 106–103 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Derrick Rose, a Chicago native, becomes the fifth Chicago Bulls player to have his jersey retired, after Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Michael Jordan, and Scottie Pippen. NBA superstars LeBron James and Stephen Curry were among those who paid tribute to the Chicago legend. Rose, who retired in 2024, was the youngest MVP in NBA history when he won the award in 2011, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Rose, 37, played eight seasons for the team after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. He was named Rookie of the Year in the 2008–09 season and was a three-time All-Star.

Rose wiped away tears as former teammates, including Luol Deng, shared memories from their time together, while a video shown on the scoreboard featured messages from LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Stephen Curry, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Speaking before an emotionally charged, sold-out crowd, Rose honored his family and teammates, as well as fans who had lined up for hours in cold temperatures before the game.
