Romanian champions finish last in Group D
ACS Sepsi-SIC Sfântu Gheorghe was defeated by the Italian team GEAS Basket Sesto San Giovanni with a score of 78–43 (18–8, 13–9, 25–10, 22–16) on Thursday evening at the “Szabo Kati” Sports Hall, in its final match of Group D in the EuroCup Women basketball competition.
With only one win in the first five rounds, the Romanian champions no longer had any chance of qualifying for the next stage, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
Sepsi-SIC did not lead at any point and lost decisively.
Beatrix Meresz, with 16 points and 9 rebounds, was the best player for the team from Covasna.
For the visitors, standout performances came from Sara Roumy (16 pts), Beatrice Attura (12 pts), and Jodie Cornelie-Sigmundova (12 pts, 8 reb).
In the other match of the group, the Hungarian team TARR KSC Szekszard defeated Belgian side Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen 74–69.
Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen finished first with 11 points, followed by GEAS Basket Sesto San Giovanni with 9 points, TARR KSC Szekszard with 9 points, and Sepsi-SIC with 7 points.
The top two teams qualify for the Round of 32, along with the best four third-placed teams and the four fourth-placed teams from the EuroLeague groups.
