Slovenia's boxing star loses world titles
Slovenian boxer Ema Kozin lost her WBO/WBC world champion titles in the women's super-welterweight category to Cecilia Braekhus as the Norwegian bid farewell from her professional career.
The match ended with a unanimous decision in favour of Braekhus after ten rounds, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.
The 44-year-old Colombian-born boxer took the titles from the 26-year-old Kozin in front of the home crowd in a 4 October match dubbed The Final Bell, which also marked the end of Braekhus's professional boxing career.
Braekhus, who dominated the welterweight category from 2014 and 2020, was the only woman boxer in history to simultaneously hold the title in all four major federations - WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.
Last night was her 42nd match in which she achieved her 39th victory, while Kozin's record now features 24 wins, a draw and two losses.
After ten rounds in the Nova Spektrum Arena in front of the crowd of some 3,000 people, Braekhus won the unanimous decision after scoring more punches that landed in the body and on the head of the Slovenian opponent.
"I'm a bit disappointed. I have a few bumps, but it's OK, because I know I did my best. I showed the whole world how tough Slovenian women can be. Let's move on!" Kozin told reporters after losing her titles.
Perhaps contributing to this is Kozin having last boxed in November 2023, when she defeated Hannah Rankin in Manchester.
