The 28-year-old Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota, has died in a car accident near the city of Zamora, Spain — less than two weeks after his wedding, according to the “Telegraph.”

“The Liverpool and Portugal forward, Diogo Jota, is reported to have tragically died in a car accident in Spain,” according to reports in the Spanish newspaper “Marca.”

The 28-year-old’s brother, Andre, is also reported to have died. The accident occurred on the A-52 highway near the city of Zaragoza, close to Spain’s northwestern border with Portugal, CE Report quotes ATA.

According to the news agency EFE, citing police sources, the two brothers were killed when their Lamborghini went off the Rías Bajas (A52) highway at kilometer 65, heading towards Benavente, shortly after midnight.

Sources suggest that the car may have suffered a tire blowout, causing it to leave the road and catch fire.

Jota married Rute Cardoso in Porto just 11 days ago. The forward is the father of three children.
