
Pedersen claims first Giro d’Italia stage in historic Albanian debut
Danish cyclist Mads Pedersen won the first stage of the Giro d’Italia, which began in Durrës and ended in Tirana (Albania).
The 108th edition of the Giro d’Italia started in Durrës and will conclude after 21 stages covering 3,443.3 kilometers in Rome, on Sunday, June 1st, CE Report quotes ATA.
For the first time in history, the race will have its first three stages in Albania. The First Stage began in Durrës and reached Tirana after 160 kilometers.
A total of 184 cyclists began pedaling, finishing in Tirana.
Just a few meters before the finish line, an accident occurred. Jay Vine fell on a turn in the Fresku area and ended up injured on the side of the road. He collided with Mikel Landa and Geoffrey Bouchard, who also received medical assistance.
This event is broadcast in more than 200 countries around the world, with over 800 million viewers expected to keep their eyes on Albania for three days.
