Dan: Civil Society Strengthens Democracy
Romanian President Nicușor Dan warned that the country is not immune to extremism and intolerance, which often target those who defend truth and transparency. His remarks were shared during the 23rd Civil Society Gala via State Councilor Cătălina Galer, CE Report quotes Agerpres
Dan praised civil society for stepping in where the state falls short, especially with limited resources. He expressed gratitude for their continued efforts in defending vulnerable groups and promoting justice.
"You are the first to report injustices and push for reform. As your voice has grown stronger, so has Romanian democracy," Dan stated, emphasizing that solidarity and collaboration are essential for national progress.
He stressed that civil society keeps the public conscience alive and offers citizens meaningful participation beyond the ballot box. Recent crises, he said, have proven the sector’s vital role in defending democratic values.
Calling for deeper cooperation between civil society and state institutions, Dan concluded: “I believe in a Romania where citizen participation is encouraged and respected.”
