Eugeniu Osmochescu will serve as acting prime minister of the Republic of Moldova starting on July 8. Alexandru Munteanu thanked Osmochescu for accepting the responsibility and expressed confidence that he will ensure the continuity of the government's work with responsibility, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

"Starting tomorrow, in accordance with the decree signed by President Maia Sandu, the duties of prime minister will be carried out by Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu. I thank him for accepting this responsibility and wish him every success in this mission. I am fully confident that he will ensure the continuity of the government's work with responsibility," Alexandru Munteanu said.

President Maia Sandu signed a decree today appointing Eugeniu Osmochescu as acting prime minister. He will assume the duties of head of government beginning on July 8, 2026, and will remain in office until a new government is formed.

Under Moldovan law, Eugeniu Osmochescu will lead the government during the transition period after former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation.

Later this week, President Sandu is expected to hold consultations with parliamentary factions to nominate a candidate for prime minister. The nominee will then present a governing program and a proposed Cabinet to Parliament in order to secure a vote of confidence.
