Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation today, stepping down as head of the Moldovan government.

Under the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the resignation of the prime minister automatically results in the resignation of the entire government.

The Constitution also stipulates that, following the prime minister's resignation, the cabinet may only carry out routine administrative duties until a new government is sworn in, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

According to the law, the President of Moldova must now begin consultations with parliamentary factions to nominate a new candidate for the post of prime minister.

The nominated candidate must seek a vote of confidence from Parliament within 15 days of being appointed, presenting both the government's program and the full list of cabinet members.

Parliament will debate the proposed program and cabinet, and confidence will be granted by a majority vote of elected lawmakers.

Once Parliament approves the new government, the President will formally appoint it. The new cabinet will assume office on the day its members take the oath before the President of Moldova.

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced his resignation after eight months in office.

Following the announcement, President Maia Sandu is scheduled to hold a press conference today at 11:00 a.m.
