Two Serbian nationals arrested in Montenegro over suspected smuggling case
Officers of the Border Police Sector – Regional Border Police Center “North” of Montenegro have arrested two foreign nationals on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of smuggling.
Border police, at the location Vuča, near the green border with the Republic of Serbia, stopped a freight vehicle (Mercedes, with Novi Pazar license plates) on a side road for inspection, CE Report informs via the Montenegrin government website.
The vehicle was driven by E.T. (34), a citizen of the Republic of Serbia. A large quantity of goods – food products worth around €3,100 – was found in the cargo area, for which the driver did not possess any documentation of origin.
Subsequent police measures and actions indicated suspicion that the goods had been purchased on the so-called “grey market” within their territory and were intended to be smuggled across the border into Serbia for further resale.
Both E.T. and M.P. (51), also a citizen of Serbia, were deprived of liberty. M.P. appeared at the scene a few minutes after the police check began and stated that the goods and the vehicle belonged to him, and that he had engaged E.T. for the described activities, namely smuggling.
The state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Rožaje was informed of the incident and qualified the offense, ordering the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects E.T. and M.P. were, along with a criminal complaint, brought before the competent state prosecutor.
