Jean-Luc Melenchon announces 2027 presidential bid

The leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, announced this evening on TF1, as expected, his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, after it had been approved earlier in the day by the party’s elected officials, CE Report quotes ANSA.

"We are ready. There is a team, a program, and a single candidate," he said, indicating that he is "the most prepared" within La France Insoumise "to face the situation ahead," and highlighting his experience in the face of the "threat of a generalized war."

Mélenchon also stated that the Rassemblement National (RN) is his "main opponent," while claiming he is able to defeat it "without difficulty."

"I am the main opponent because it seems they will win. Honestly, I don’t believe it. I don’t even know if they will reach the second round... I think we will beat them soundly," he added.
