Nerin Dizdar, Federal Minister for Refugees and Displaced Persons, announced on social media that academician Rusmir Mahmutćehajić, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has passed away.

“Perhaps the best way to describe his relationship with this country is the anecdotal fact that he never allowed the name of his homeland to be written in abbreviations, because Bosnia and Herzegovina must always be called by its full name, as the dearest thing we have, like a mother. His relationship with Stolac was also special, a love for his birthplace worthy of admiration and study,” Dizdar wrote.

He also noted that Mahmutćehajić was involved in the restoration of mosques in Stolac, to which he always returned, CE Report quotes FENA.

“Among many other things, he was a man who organized and led the restoration of all destroyed Stolac mosques and a number of other Stolac waqf properties and national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although he was a person and intellectual of global stature, he always returned to his Stolac and was a key figure in the restoration of all significant religious and cultural sites in the city. He stayed with Stolac and its people his entire life, dedicating hundreds of written pages, public events, and all his energy to his hometown. For such people, rare individuals of this caliber who appear in a generation, it is said that history will record them and their deeds,” Dizdar stated.
