Trump administration outlines four objectives in bombing Iran
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump said that the U.S. military has enough ammunition to carry out its campaign against Iran, suggesting that the war against the Islamic Republic could last up to eight months, according to EFE, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“It could be four weeks, but it could also be six, eight or three,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said during a press conference at the Pentagon, assuring that the United States and Israel are fully dictating the “pace” of the war.
Hegseth said that “in less than a week, the two most powerful air forces in the world will have total control of Iran’s airspace,” after which the United States will begin using “high-precision GPS- and laser-guided bombs weighing 500, 1,000 and 2,000 pounds,” of which the U.S. has “unlimited stockpiles.”
According to open-source information, “Laser/GPS Guided Munitions (500 lb) 1,000 & Dual Mode (2000 lb) 1,100” are bombs that use a dual-guidance system, combining laser technology (for maximum precision against moving targets) with GPS/INS (Global Positioning System / Inertial Navigation System) for operation in all weather conditions. They can be based on the Joint Direct Attack Munition or the Enhanced Paveway kits.
At the same press conference, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Caine, said that Washington has “sufficient high-precision munitions for tasks on the ground, both offensive and defensive,” but added that he would not provide exact numbers for operational security reasons.
Meanwhile, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, also stressed that the Pentagon is not facing a shortage of ammunition.
“As for munitions and arsenals, the United States has more than enough capacity not only to successfully carry out Operation Epic Fury, but also to go far beyond it. In addition, we have arsenals in places many people in this world do not know about,” Leavitt said.
Despite conflicting statements regarding the justification for the attack, the White House spokeswoman said Washington has four main objectives in bombing Iran: destroying its arsenal and its ability to produce ballistic missiles, annihilating its navy, ensuring that Tehran-backed “proxy” groups no longer have influence in the region or attack U.S. interests, and preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
