Russia-Ukraine Move Closer to Peace in Istanbul Talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced Wednesday that the latest round of Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul marked tangible progress toward peace. The two sides agreed to exchange at least 1,200 prisoners of war and take further steps to return civilians, including children, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Fidan welcomed the constructive tone of the third round of negotiations hosted by Türkiye, highlighting discussions on forming joint working groups for political, humanitarian, and military issues. He emphasized the importance of patience and international support.

Ukraine proposed a presidential-level summit by late August and expressed readiness for a ceasefire without preconditions. Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky confirmed the prisoner exchange, suggested short-term ceasefires for humanitarian purposes, and expressed openness to further talks.
