Moldova strips five security officials of citizenship
Maia Sandu has revoked the citizenship of five officers from the so-called “state security ministry” of the Transnistrian region.
A decree to this effect was signed today by the Moldovan president, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
According to the document, the individuals are: Alexandr Bulgaz, Denis Caramanuța, Nicolai Covaliov, Denis Marusic, and Evghenii Romaniuc, all born in Moldova.
The decree enters into force on the date of signing and may be challenged in court.
At the end of February 2026, Maia Sandu also signed a decree revoking Moldovan citizenship from nine other individuals who held and continue to hold positions within the so-called unconstitutional entities on the left bank of the Dniester River.
At the same time, two of those targeted had fought on the side of the separatists during the 1992 Transnistria war.
In this case, the citizenship revocation procedure was initiated by the Public Services Agency of Moldova following a notification from the Security and Intelligence Service of Moldova, based on findings that legal grounds existed for revoking Moldovan citizenship due to particularly serious acts deemed harmful to the interests of Moldova.
