President Maia Sandu met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer during her working visit to the UK to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of economic partnership and institutional support, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The leaders highlighted the success of the 2023 removal of customs tariffs on Moldovan goods, which led to a sharp rise in exports—plums increased 15-fold, apples nearly five times, and grapes nearly tripled. Sandu expressed interest in further strengthening trade relations.

The two countries also finalized an agreement allowing Moldovan citizens in the UK to exchange their driving licenses without exams, starting August 1, 2025. This follows a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding and applies within the first five years of residence.

Talks also addressed continued UK support for Moldova’s democratic development and resilience amid regional challenges. President Sandu’s visit will continue with a meeting with King Charles III.
