Bulgaria Condemns Russian Aggression
The Bulgarian National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a declaration denouncing Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The document, proposed by the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition, passed with 112 votes in favor, 52 against, and 26 abstentions, CE Report quotes BTA
The declaration condemns Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion, the 2014 annexation of Crimea, and alleged war crimes such as the Bucha massacre. It also cites Russian sabotage operations on Bulgarian soil, disinformation campaigns, election interference, and Moscow’s inclusion of Bulgaria on its “unfriendly countries” list.
Aligning with EU and NATO positions, the declaration calls Russia the “most significant and direct threat” to security, referencing the European Parliament’s labeling of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and the ICC arrest warrant for President Putin.
Bulgaria reaffirms its commitment to enforce sanctions, enhance national security, and strengthen defenses against hybrid threats. It pledges continued support for Ukraine, including humanitarian and military aid, while underscoring the need for reforms in cybersecurity, strategic oversight, and energy independence.
MP Yavor Bozhankov said the declaration formalizes a European stance that Bulgaria had yet to adopt legislatively.
