President Maia Sandu took part in the fourth Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, co-hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Sandu underscored Moldova’s strong support for Ukraine, stating that Moldova’s stability and future are closely tied to that of its neighbor. She highlighted Moldova’s strategic position as a logistics corridor for transporting construction materials to southern Ukrainian regions like Odesa and Mykolaiv.
“Planning reconstruction during war is difficult, but it sends a vital message—Ukraine is preparing to rebuild and thrive,” Sandu said. She urged the international community to accelerate military support for Ukraine to ensure its resistance and eventual recovery.
Sandu also stressed Moldova’s role as a reliable security partner, especially amid growing Russian interference ahead of its parliamentary elections. She warned against allowing Moldova’s 1,200 km border with Ukraine to become a “hostile frontier.”
The annual Ukraine Recovery Conference has previously been held in Switzerland (2022), Germany (2023), and the UK (2024).
