"Moldovan Parties Hide Millions – Report"
Political parties in Moldova concealed at least 20 million lei in expenditures during 2024, according to a new report by Promo-LEX. The Political Bloc Victorie accounted for 81% of this unreported spending, while other parties such as PSRM, PAS, PN, and PSDE were also named, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
Promo-LEX’s “Financing of Political Parties in Moldova: Retrospective of 2024” revealed that Victorie and its affiliates reported no revenue or expenses despite evident costly campaigning. Meanwhile, only 36 parties reported revenues totaling 70.2 million lei, with PAS, PSRM, and PN accounting for 74% of that sum. Most party income (75%) came from the state budget.
Although state dependency remains high, 2024 saw a rise in private donations, nearly tripling from 2023 levels. Yet, only 26% of individual donations met legal verification requirements. Total declared spending exceeded 71 million lei, with PAS, PSRM, and PN being the top spenders.
Promo-LEX urges parties to diversify their funding and improve transparency, especially concerning third-party financing, which remains unregulated despite international recommendations.
