
EU Backs Greece on Asylum Pause
The European Commission is aware of Greece's plan to suspend processing asylum applications from boat arrivals originating in North Africa, Commission migration spokesperson Markus Lammert said Friday. He described Greece's situation as "exceptional" and linked the move to the deteriorating conditions in Libya, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Lammert noted that any Greek measures should be viewed in the context of broader European security and migration concerns. He confirmed the Commission is in close contact with Greek authorities to monitor the implementation of these policies.
The EU continues to support Greece financially, operationally, and through its agencies, Lammert said, adding that Brussels is ready to increase assistance and intensify cooperation with partner countries.
