Von der Leyen No-Confidence Vote Set
A motion of no-confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be debated on July 7 and voted on July 10 during the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
The motion, submitted by Romanian MEP Gheorghe Piperea, cleared the Conference of Presidents with 79 supporting signatures. It accuses von der Leyen of violating EU transparency rules by refusing to disclose 2021 text messages with Pfizer’s CEO during COVID-19 vaccine negotiations—despite a European Court of Justice ruling in favor of their release.
Piperea criticized the Commission for applying strict rule-of-law standards to Eastern European countries while avoiding scrutiny itself. Although the vote is unlikely to pass, he said it carries strong symbolic weight.
