Greece Backs Ukraine at Odessa Summit

At the 4th Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit in Odessa, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece's full solidarity with Ukraine amidst renewed Russian missile and drone attacks targeting civilians, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis strongly condemned the attacks as violations of international humanitarian law and stressed Ukraine’s right to defend itself. He pledged continued Greek support—diplomatic, financial, military, and humanitarian—and expressed hope for a just and lasting peace, while affirming that any peace formula must be decided by Ukrainians themselves.

Highlighting Odessa’s symbolic resistance, Mitsotakis also proposed a major EU-funded connectivity project linking Alexandroupolis to Odessa via Varna and Constanza, to aid Ukraine’s reconstruction and EU integration.

Addressing EU defense cooperation at a joint press conference, he noted that Russia’s invasion had prompted a European "geopolitical awakening." He emphasized the importance of initiatives like the EU's SAFE mechanism and ReArm, calling Ukraine a key future partner in Europe's defense architecture.

He concluded with a pointed message to countries like Türkiye: alignment with EU foreign policy is essential for access to European defense funding.

Mitsotakis also met privately with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and joined other leaders in laying a wreath at Odessa’s Alley of Heroes.
