Western Leaders Call for Unconditional Ukraine Ceasefire
The leaders of France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy spoke by phone last night with U.S. President Donald Trump, one day before his scheduled call with the Kremlin chief, aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine, according to Downing Street, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The heads of state and government “discussed the situation in Ukraine and the catastrophic cost of the war for both sides,” said a spokesperson for Keir Starmer’s office in a statement.
“Before the phone call between President Trump and President Putin (expected on Monday), the leaders discussed the need for an unconditional ceasefire and the importance of President Putin taking the peace talks seriously,” the statement added.
Following the failure of the talks between Kyiv and Moscow held on Friday in Turkey, the leaders also “discussed the use of sanctions if Russia does not seriously commit to a ceasefire and peace negotiations,” according to Downing Street.
