Duda and Herzog Join Holocaust March

Politics

Polish President Andrzej Duda and Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the media ahead of the March of the Living, an annual event commemorating Holocaust victims at the Auschwitz-Birkenau site, CE Report quotes PAP

Duda emphasized that Auschwitz was created by Nazis to exterminate Jews and other groups, noting that over one million Polish citizens, including Jews, Poles, and Roma, were murdered there. He called the march a powerful “never again” statement against hatred and antisemitism.

Herzog highlighted the recent surge in antisemitism and affirmed the shared commitment to remembrance and peace. He welcomed the resumption of Israeli student visits to Poland, suspended after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack. He also urged global action to pressure Hamas to release remaining hostages.

During talks, Duda reaffirmed Poland’s support for a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine conflict, calling it a path toward lasting peace.

The three-kilometer march from Auschwitz’s gate to Birkenau’s crematoria continues a tradition begun in 1988, honoring Holocaust victims and promoting historical awareness.
