Kosovo FM demands support for country’s EU membership

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Donika Gërvalla today called for clear support for Kosovo’s aspirations to join the EU and NATO during the meeting of EU foreign ministers held in Luxembourg, emphasizing that these processes are important not only for Kosovo but also for regional and European stability, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Gërvalla outlined three urgent steps needed now, which would significantly contribute to stabilizing the situation in the Western Balkans and pave the way for the region's integration into the EU.

The steps mentioned are: the removal of EU punitive measures against Kosovo, the completion of Kosovo’s membership process in the Council of Europe, and support for Kosovo’s application for EU membership, according to KosovaPress.

Gërvalla underlined the full commitment of the Government of Kosovo to the EU-facilitated dialogue with Serbia, and to the implementation of the 2023 Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid Annex.

She emphasized that this process should lead to mutual recognition and the building of good neighborly relations based on equality and European values.

Gërvalla also called on the EU to take action against Serbia, which continues to deny the agreement and act in contradiction to its provisions.

In light of ongoing threats from Serbia and Russian influence in the region, Gërvalla called for strong support for Kosovo’s NATO membership aspirations and accountability for the open act of aggression in Banjska, considering it a key issue for regional security and the integrity of the European Union.

“The time to act is now. Supporting Kosovo is an investment in peace, security, and democracy across Europe,” said Gërvalla.
