NATO clarified on Wednesday that Secretary-General Mark Rutte's earlier comments about the missing US soldiers in Lithuania were misinterpreted. The alliance stated that their deaths have not been confirmed, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"We regret any confusion caused by Secretary-General Rutte's remarks. He was referring to emerging news reports and did not confirm the fate of the missing soldiers, which remains unknown," said NATO spokeswoman Allison Hart on X.

The search for the four missing US soldiers, who vanished during a routine training exercise in Lithuania, is still ongoing. Their vehicle was discovered submerged in water near Pabrade, in eastern Lithuania.

US President Donald Trump stated he had not been briefed on the situation. "No, I haven't," he said when asked on Wednesday.

A multinational search operation continues, involving US and NATO forces.
