Greece Calls for Greater EU Investment in Transport Infrastructure

At the Thessaloniki Summit, Greek Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras emphasized the need for Europe to diversify its supply chains and trade corridors in response to geopolitical challenges. He highlighted the importance of investing in infrastructure linking the EU with its eastern and southern neighbors through the European Transport Corridors (TEN-T) to enhance economic security and reduce external vulnerabilities, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Staikouras acknowledged the complexity of large cross-border projects, which require significant time for agreements, budgeting, and technical studies. He stressed the need for strong EU co-financing in the next funding period and advocated for a more ambitious Connecting Europe Facility 3 (CEF III) to accelerate the completion of missing high-speed connections and major cross-border projects.
