OPEM Moldova to test electricity trading platform on December 3–5

Moldova

The OPEM Moldova trading platform will be tested between December 3–5 with bids for the sale and purchase of electricity.

According to the Ministry of Energy, for testing purposes OPEM will register and configure only those participants who have already signed up for the Day-Ahead Market (PZU) or have submitted their registration files by November 27 inclusive, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“The functioning of the PZU will allow electricity to be traded on a competitive basis, with delivery on the day following the trading day, playing an essential role in forming fair and equitable prices for participants,” the Ministry of Energy noted.

In accordance with the provisions of the Law on Electricity, the electricity market consists of the bilateral contracts market and the organized electricity markets, which include: the Day-Ahead Market (PZU), the Intraday Market (PPZ), the balancing energy market, and the system services market.

Currently, 96 companies in the Republic of Moldova hold electricity supply licenses, but only three suppliers operate in the competitive/unregulated market, with market shares of 1.52%, 0.14%, and 0.34%, respectively. According to estimates, after the launch of the organized markets, the market share of suppliers in the unregulated electricity market is expected to increase significantly.
