Government Expands Free School Meals Program to Middle School Students

Moldova

Starting September 1, 2025, middle school students in grades 5-9 will receive free school meals, benefiting approximately 160,000 pupils. This expansion builds on the existing program, which currently provides meals only to primary school children, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of this initiative, calling it a vital investment in children's health and education. "We promised this last autumn, and now the government has allocated the first 80 million lei to ensure its implementation," she said.

The government has approved a total of over 205 million lei from the 2025 state budget to fund the program.
