Health Minister of North Macedonia Azir Aliu and the European Union’s Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare, Olivér Várhelyi, signed an agreement associating the Republic of North Macedonia to EU4Health, the European Union’s largest programme in healthcare.

According to a press release from the Health Ministry, at the signing ceremony in Brussels, Minister Aliu assessed that the country’s association to the EU4Health programme represents a significant step forward in the European integration of Macedonian healthcare and a confirmation that reforms in the country are proceeding in line with European standards and priorities, CE Report quotes MIA.

“With this agreement, our country is becoming a part of European efforts to strengthen healthcare systems, advance public health, digitize health services, boost preparedness for health crises, and ensure higher quality healthcare for the citizens. This does not just mean associating to a European programme, it also means investments in better healthcare services, stronger institutions, and better conditions for patients and medical workers. With EU4Health, our reforms are receiving additional European assistance, knowledge, and partnerships,” Aliu said.

The Health Minister said the signing of the agreement is an important signal showing that not only is North Macedonia declaring its European orientation, but it is also transforming it into concrete policies and opportunities for the citizens.

Participation in the programme will make it possible for Macedonian healthcare institutions and experts to join European networks, shared projects, and initiatives aimed at improving healthcare policies and services.
