The President of the European Council, António Costa, on Thursday condemned the latest Russian attacks against Ukraine, which left at least 16 people dead.

He called on Moscow to stop deliberately spreading terror against civilians, AFP reported, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

“Last night, Russia launched another atrocious attack against civilians in Ukraine,” António Costa said on X.

“Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has failed, and that is why it is choosing to deliberately terrorize civilians,” he added.

At least 16 people were killed overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in attacks carried out by Russian forces, including in the capital Kyiv and the city of Odesa, Ukrainian authorities said, as negotiations to end the war remain stalled.

These missile and drone strikes, among the deadliest in recent weeks, also left at least 107 people injured across the country, according to regional authorities in Kyiv, Odesa (south), Dnipropetrovsk (central), and Kharkiv (east).

Since the beginning of the conflict four years ago, the Russian military has attacked Ukrainian territory almost every night with missiles and hundreds of drones, and has recently intensified daytime strikes as well.

Over 24 hours, the Russian army launched 659 drones and 44 missiles against Ukraine, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Thursday, noting that 636 drones and 31 missiles were intercepted.
