Moldova honours Cyprus official for support of EU integration
Cyprus' Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, has been awarded Moldova's Order of Honour, a distinction conferred by President Maia Sandu in recognition of her contribution to supporting Moldova's European path and the European Union's enlargement policy.
The award was presented in Brussels by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov during a meeting held on the sidelines of events dedicated to Moldova's EU integration process, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
According to Gherasimov, Moldova made significant progress toward EU membership during the first half of the year, while Cyprus held the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
"In the first half of this year, under the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, Moldova achieved important progress on its European path. Behind those positive results was a great deal of work and outstanding cooperation with our partners in Nicosia," Gherasimov said.
She added that President Maia Sandu awarded the Order of Honour to Raouna "as a token of gratitude for her contribution and commitment to the European Union's enlargement policy and to the European future of the Republic of Moldova."
"Thank you, dear Marilena, for your professionalism, openness, and personal commitment, and for being a friend Moldova can always rely on," Gherasimov said.
Cyprus has been among the European Union member states supporting Moldova's progress toward EU membership, including during its presidency of the Council of the European Union.
