Tetris Company denies involvement in controversial White House game

The Tetris Company, creator of the iconic Tetris video game, said on Friday that it was not involved in the design of a controversial game launched by the White House, AFP reported.

The company said it had not authorized the use of the Tetris trademark or any content protected by intellectual property rights for the game. “We are analyzing the case,” a company spokesperson told AFP.

“We take intellectual property infringement very seriously,” The Tetris Company stressed in a message posted on the social media platform X.

Asked by AFP about the matter, the White House did not immediately respond.

Available on the White House website, the game “Build the Wall” invites players to build a wall along the border to protect themselves from “zombies,” with a single objective: “Protect the border from the approaching horde.”

Although the game does not identify a specific location, its title recalls one of Donald Trump’s campaign slogans, which clearly referred to the border between the United States and Mexico.

The game, along with another title launched on Thursday in which the player must catch and expel illegal immigrants near the Rio Grande, has sparked strong criticism.

The US administration has been accused of treating a sensitive issue lightly, while the White House has defended what it calls a “culture of fun and victory,” AFP reports.

In addition to the design of “Build the Wall,” which visually resembles Tetris, the Trump administration has also altered the logo of Japanese video game manufacturer SEGA, turning it into “MAGA,” after Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

On Thursday, the White House launched “Arcade,” a website featuring five retro-style video games based on some of President Donald Trump’s policies.

The games include “Rio Run,” based on the mechanics of the classic “Snake” game, in which players patrol the border along the Rio Grande and stop people attempting to cross it.

Another game, “Supply Line,” requires users to remove food from a supply chain that does not meet the criteria of the “Make America Healthy Again” initiative.

The collection also includes “Flappy Bill,” which adapts the mechanics of the popular “Flappy Bird” game.

The website has also announced a sixth game that is “coming soon.”

The White House told The Washington Examiner that the initiative aims to “translate Trump’s agenda into an interactive format” and “tell the story of his achievements” in a way that resonates with Americans.
