Moldova marks key milestones on EU path in 2025
The Bureau for European Integration (BIE) presented the most important events of 2025 in the European path of the Republic of Moldova.
The first event mentioned took place on May 9 in Chișinău, where European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and former Prime Minister Dorin Recean signed the Growth Plan for Moldova, worth 1.9 billion euros, representing the largest financial support ever received by the country, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
Another significant event occurred at the end of May, when the Government adopted the National Program for EU Accession. This program represents the roadmap toward the European Union. As a result, over 3,000 European acts will be transposed into national legislation.
“On July 4, Chișinău hosted the first Moldova-European Union Summit, under the auspices of President Maia Sandu. The event was attended by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. This marked a new political stage in Moldova’s relationship with the EU,” emphasized BIE.
On Independence Day, the Republic of Moldova received important guests: French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Their message was clear: Moldova’s future is in the European Union.
“On September 22, in Brussels, the Republic of Moldova completed the bilateral screening phase. In a record time of just 15 months, during sessions held in Chișinău, Luxembourg, and Brussels, over one hundred thousand pages of national legislation were analyzed in relation to European legislation. In December, the country began technical-level negotiations on chapters 1, 2, and 6 – Fundamental Rights, Internal Market, and External Relations,” BIE stated.
In the parliamentary elections on September 28, citizens of Moldova chose to continue the European path. The new Parliament in Chișinău created a European Integration Commission, headed by deputy Marcel Spatari.
Starting from October 6, 2025, Moldovan citizens were able to make faster, safer, and cheaper euro transfers to all EU member states. In the first month after joining SEPA, citizens saved 1.4 million euros in bank transfer fees.
“In the past 12 months, our country has made progress on each chapter of EU accession negotiations, and the level of preparedness has increased for two-thirds of the chapters, according to the annual European Commission enlargement report. On November 7, 2025, in Chișinău, the European Parliament Office for Eastern Partnership states was inaugurated,” noted BIE.
The new government, led by Alexandru Munteanu, set 10 key priorities on the path to EU accession.
“These will help us transform the country into a place where people want and can build a safe and prosperous future, where justice is at the forefront, the economy develops and provides a better standard of living for citizens, and young people choose to stay at home,” BIE remarked.
As reported by CE Report, authorities in Chișinău emphasize that these stages mark crucial moments in the EU accession negotiations, which will serve as the foundation for future progress in Moldova’s integration into the European Union.
